A best friend to many, an enemy to none

It was cold that day, the day, that day. Bitter cold in fact. My head ached. It had ached for weeks before that day. It was a weird connection we had, and only her and I knew it. We stress out on the same days, we always knew when we needed each other. We had a way of calming each other down. I remember her saying to me "what I love about our relationship is that, even if we don't talk to each other every day, we are always thinking of each other. We are sisters at heart, we love each other" Not one phone conversation ended with out an "I love you".

These things were in my head as I drove. As I climbed out of my car, I remembered hearing funny stories while dinning out with the family. While I travelled up the elevators, I remembered sledding with the girls by Grandma Ruthie. As I rounded the corner of the first hall, I remembered my first Mary Kay meeting with her.

It was in my heart, so I knew it before I hit the last and nearest hall way leading to her. I knew what she truly needed from me that day. I saw a daughter, a aunt, a wife and most importantly, a mother that adored her children like no other. A truly undying love.

I rubbed her hand while she rested calmly, I told her I would do what ever I could do, to help her family, our family. I asked her if I had her blessings to start a trust fund for girls. I saw her foot move, just like it was a nod of the head. I told her that I loved her and saw her foot flicker again. I felt selfish for wanting to start sobbing. I didn't want her to hear my pain. She needed to rest.

I had a hard time leaving that night. As I rounded the elevator back to my car, I felt like a piece of me was left there. But, I knew she was in good hands. She loves her family and they were with her.

On my drive home, I thought....and thought....

I knew in my heart that she was an angel. Whether on earth or in spirit. I in fact told her that years ago. I remembered when my grandma died. She told my dad while ill, "he needs me". By he, did she mean God? I believe that is true.

The next few days, I didn't sleep well. Friday I felt sick. Today my head still aches. Why? Why would he take away someone so genuine, loving and true? Was this fair?

Was the real answer, because he needed her? He needed her more then I? In my heart I believe that is true. I know that, that night an angel was born.

Do we know that time will eventually heal?

I do. But, that length of time is not known. I know that the love will not disappear, but continue to forever grow in our hearts.

I hope her friends and family hear her now, what I know she wants them to hear. I know the connection is still there if they listen hard enough.

I am still listening.

This is why I have formed Ahola's Angels, a trust fund for her girls.
